Belvidere Bucs vs. Hononegah Indians(Varsity)
8/24/07

The Belvidere Bucs under their new head coach Matt Weckler took the field on Friday night against the rival Hononegah Indians. The Bucs hope to repeat the victory of last year of with the score of Bucs 55, Indians 21. Veteran coach Mike Hearn assumes his new role as offensive coordinator bringing continuity to the offense. When looking at the stands empty seats were at a minimum the fans came out to support the Bucs. Unfortunately for the Belvidere North High School their game was forfeited by Harlem due to the teacher’s strike they hope to be back to action next week. The Bucs hope to play Harlem next week.

The Belvidere Bucs #7 Kyle Tevebaugh will kickoff to the Indians who will be defending the North goal. The Indians return the kickoff of r a first and 10 on their own 40 yard line. The Bucs defense holds the Indians on their first possession. The Indian punt is downed by an Indian on the Buc 13 yard line. Bucs 1st and 10 with 10:20 on the clock.

The Bucs are unable to move the ball during the first series. They are forced to punt putting the Indians decent field position. #42, Aaron Yerk boots a nice punt with no return. Hononegah takes over at their own 37 yard line. They are unable to advance the ball and are forced to punt 6:20 left in the 1st quarter.

The first score of the game comes off of a 48 yard pass completion for the Indians. The Indian quarterback lobs the ball over the left side of the line the ball is caught and the Indian receiver sprints untouched up the left sideline. The PAT is good making the score Bucs 0, Indians 7.

#40 Patrick OBrien slammed into the line to get the score. Tevebaugh’s PAT was no good but the score is now Bucs 6, Indians 7 there is 1:23 left in the first quarter. The Bucs kickoff to the Indians and force a fumble. The Indians recover and it is 1st and 10 on the Indian 37 yard line. The clock would run out of the 1st with the Indians leading by 1, Indians 7, Bucs 6.

The Indians chew up over 5 minutes of the clock methodically driving down the field towards the end zone. The Indians get deep into the Buc territory faced with a 4th and 4 on the Buc 13 yard line. The Indian pass is caught just outside of the back of the end zone and ruled as incomplete. The Bucs will take over on their own 13 yard line.

OBrien makes a 26 yard run to bring the Bucs to mid field. Senior Patrick OBrien is the solid workhorse running back for the Bucs. The Bucs plan to utilize OBrien’s talents numerous times throughout the season hoping to repeat his yardage accomplishments. The Bucs return the favor by marching down the field eating up another couple of minutes off of the clock. OBrien pounds the ball down to the 6 yard line of the Indians.  The Bucs call a timeout with 2:31 on the clock. The Buc face a 2nd and goal situation. The Bucs fumble the ball during the quarterback running back exchange. The Indians recover and take over on the 9 yard line of the Bucs. The Bucs call a timeout with 1:35 remaining in the 1st half of play. Hononegah would be unable to move the ball and the clock would run out. The score at the end of the first half is Bucs 6, Indians 7.

The Bucs would be on the receiving end to start the second half of regulation play. #5 Tiras Harris and #34, Phil Czechowicz is back to receive the kickoff. Harris receives the ball and returns to the 33 yard line. The Bucs fumble the ball with the Indians recovering. The Indians take over on the Buc 44 yard line.

The Indian quarterback takes a 6 yard sprint to the right side of the line. The PAT is good and the score is Bucs 6, Indians 14. There is 7:30 remaining in the 3rd quarter.

#87, Charles Chapman catches a 45 yard Tevebaugh pass for a score. The Bucs attempt a 2-point conversion pass play. There was a penalty on the play but the catch stands as caught. This ties the game Bucs 14, Indians 14. There is 6:20 remaining in the 3rd.

#91, Travis Weinsheim gets the first sack of the game. This forces a Hononegah punt taken by #19, Josh Easley. Easley is brought down on the 43 yard line of Hononegah. The Bucs methodically pound the ball down to 2nd and goal on the Indian 1 yard line. The call came to OBrien who hammered the middle of the Indian defensive line for the score. Tevebaugh’s PAT attempt is good and the Bucs pull ahead for the first time of the game. The score is Bucs 21, Indians 14 with 2:20 left in the 3rd quarter.

The 3rd quarter ends with the Indians on the move after a couple of Belvidere penalties. The Indians will start the 4th quarter on the Buc 26 yard line. The score is Bucs 21, Indians 14.

The Indians continue their drive only to be stopped by the Buc defense. With 4th and 2 on the 20 yard line, the Buc defensive line forces a fumble. The Bucs take over on downs.

The Bucs call a timeout with the ball on their own 30 yard line and 9:13 on the clock. The Bucs use OBrien to pound the ball down to the 40 yard line of Hononegah. The weather takes a change and begins to lightly rain. The ball slips from the Buc running back and the Indians recover 1st and 10 on the 40 yard line. A little over 6 minutes remaining in the game.

The Buc defense holds again and begins to chew up the clock there is less than 3 minutes left in the game. The Indians call a timeout with 2:38 left in the game. The Bucs are facing a 3rd and 9 situation on their own 41 yard line. The Indians know they have to hold the Bucs here to be able to tie the game. Tevebaugh passes 57 yards to Chapman for a Buc score. Tevebaugh’s PAT attempt is good making the score the Bucs 28, Indians 14 and 2:28 remains in the game.

 The Bucs do an onside kick and it is recovered by Hononegah at the 50 yard line. The rain continues to make the field a soupy sloppy mess. The weather appears to be affecting grip on the ball and the footing on the field. #43, Mike Whitt intercepts the ball and the Bucs take over on the 40 yard line. #36, Matt Safranek pounds ahead for a Buc first down to keep the clock running. Tevebaugh takes a knee to finish out the game. The Bucs played a very well fought game against the Indians. The final score of the game was Bucs 28, Indians 14. Congratulations to Coach Weckler and his new staff.

Belvidere Bucs Vs Hononegah (Sophomores)

The Sophomore Bucs back to receive the opening kickoff for the 2007 season.#42, Alex Schanna no return on the play.  The Bucs end the first series of downs with a 4th and 6. The Indians back to receive the punt, they fair catch the ball on the 49 yard line of the Bucs.  The Indians get the first down and a face mask penalty moves the ball to the Bucs 22 yard line. The Indians score first with a 7 yard play off of the left side of the line. The PAT is no good and the score at 4:57 remaining in the 1st quarter is Bucs 0, Indians 6.

The Indians on their second possession of the game threaten another score. After numerous penalties and plays they end up 22 and goal with less than a minute left in the first quarter. The Indians turn the ball over on downs and it is first and 10 for the Bucs on their own 11 yard line.

The first quarter ends with the score Bucs 0, Indians 6.

The Bucs start out the 2nd quarter deep in their own territory. Mis queues drop the Bucs back and are forced to punt. The Indians take up position around the 37 yard line for the punt. The punt is away and the Indian back catches and heads for the left corner of the end zone. The Hononegah running back dives into the end zone against two Buc defenders for the score. The Indians follow-up with a 2-point conversion and the score is now Bucs 0, Indians 14 at 8:28 left in the first half.

With 6:03 remaining in the 2nd quarter the Bucs recover a fumble and are 1st and 10 at the Bucs 47 yard line. The Bucs are unable to capitalize on the turnover and call a timeout with 4:42 on the clock. They face a 3rd down and 11. The Bucs are forced to punt. The Indians take the punt at the 25 yard line and are brought down on the Buc 47 yard line.

At 3:54 the Indians add another score with a 37 yard touchdown run right up the middle. The PAT is good and the score is now Bucs 0, Indians 21. The 1st half of play would end with the Indians scoring another touchdown. The score was a 6 yard run straight to the middle. The PAT was good and the score was Bucs 0, Indians 28. A down ball allowed the Indians to get the ball on the 2 yard line. This followed the Bucs best play of the game with a 50 yard pass completion from #2, James Johnson to #12, Caleb Boardman.

The 2nd half of the game began with an 86 yard line touchdown run off of the kickoff. The PAT is good and the score after :14 seconds is Bucs 0, Indians 35. The Bucs will take over on their own 35 yard line.

The Indian first possession of the 2nd half is a continuance of the same. The Indians march down the field and score with 5:34 left on the clock. The Indians forced the ball right up the middle and into the end zone. The PAT is no good and the score is Bucs 0, Indians 41.

Johnson completes a pass to Boardman for a 57 yard gain. The Bucs take the ball 1st and 10 on the one yard line. Johnson then sneaks behind the center for the first Buc score.  The PAT attempt by Schanna is good. This makes the score Bucs 7, Indians 41 3:41 remains on the clock.

The Buc defense forces an Indian fumble and recovers the ball. #5, Jacob Dotzler is the Buc that forces the ball loose. The Bucs will take over 1st and 10 on the Buc 45 yard line. The 3rd quarter ends with the score Bucs 7, Indians 41.

Early in the 4th quarter the Bucs offense march down the field against the Indians. The Bucs have a 6inch and 3rd. #60, Brandon Gross punches the ball into the end zone. Schanna’s PAT is good and the score is Bucs 14, Indians 41.

The game would end with Hononegah sticking with a run attack to eat up as much of the clock as they can. The final score of the game would be Bucs 14, Indians 41.
