Coaches Corner
by BHS Sophomore Football Head Coach Jim Ryan

The Sophomores started their 2008 season with a huge challenge. We had to face an undefeated team from last year that we have not seen. Due to last years split schedule we did not play Hononegah. We knew that they had a great season and had some good players on their team.
I was very proud of how our kids competed. Most of our kids were playing both offense and defense and showed a lot of heart. It took us awhile to get used to Hononegah’s defense. They played a very aggressive, blitzing defense. They brought at least 1 – 2 players on every play.
The coaches saw some good things and bad things. We need to get better on special teams. We gave up two special teams touchdowns. That is something that is easily correctable. We had a positive turnover ratio. We forced three fumbles and only had 1 turnover ourselves. Another bright spot was quarterback James Johnson and new receiver Caleb Boardman who seem to have found a little chemistry. They connected a couple time for over 100 yards.
Up next is another team that we did not play last year, Harlem. They did not play last week against North due to the strike. I expect a competitive game hope to see lots of fans there!! I look forward to seeing these guys grow throughout the season. I think with their work ethic and dedication to Belvidere football they will have a much improved season.
