Coaches Corner

by BHS Football Head Coach Matt Weckler

The 2007 season kicked off Friday night the way high school football is meant to be...two good football teams playing physical, leaving all they had on the field.

Knowing the type of talent Hononegah had returning from a solid 2006 season, we knew we would have to play a great game to compete.  Luckily for us, our kids did just that.  All of those off season workouts and training sessions paid off as we were able to wear Hononehah down in the second half and make some big plays down the stretch with Kyle Tevebaugh connecting with Charles Chatman for two touchdown passes to put us up by two scores.

The real story of the game however came about in the front line.  Our kids up front did just an outstanding job picking up many stunts and blitzes as well as opening holes for Patrick O'Briens 147 yard, two TD performance.  That is what Belvidere Buc Football is all about.

Even with a solid opener, we have a lot to improve on before Friday's game vs. Harlem at Funderburg Stadium. The kids know it and the coaching staff knows it.  It should be a great one to see.
