Coach's Corner

by BHS Football Head Coach Matt Weckler

After a hot summer the season finally started for the 2010 Belvidere Bucs which started with an explosive performance.  On the opening play, Kyle Harris gave not only our team a boost but gave the fans at Funderburg Stadium somthing to cheer about returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown.  This quick start gave us the confidence on both sides of the ball to take care of the Auburn Knights 58-14.

As a team I felt we looked pretty explosive on offense with Marcus Gooden scoring 4 Touchdowns from the Fullback position as well as our ability to spread the ball around to mutiple recievers and backs keeping Auburn on their heals.  On defense we really swarmed the ball very well and made plays we need our defense to make as well as cause turnovers as well as negative plays.

Even with the convincing victory we still have much work to be done to compete with the top teams in the conference.  this week we will be on the road at Hononegah which has a very solid offense and defense as well.  they have a 3 year starter at QB  as well as some speed at HB.  This will be a great test to see where we stack up with the rest of the teams in the conference.

Offensive Player of the Game:  Marcus Gooden Defensive Player of the Game:  Stephan Mead
