Belvidere Bucs vs. Harlem Huskies(Varsity)
8/31/07

The Belvidere Bucs would go into tonight's contest against the Harlem Huskies looking for their second win in the NIC-10. Harlem would be seeking their first win (loss last week to Belvidere North due to the teacher's strike). Both teams were hungry for the win and Belvidere would get it coming out on top 34-19.

It would not be an easy win though. Just like last week, the Bucs would be down at the halfway mark 12-7. The tone for the half was set on the first play after the Belvidere kickoff. Harlem QB, Jordan Russo would give the ball to HB Sebastian Russo who would then pass the ball to Steve Oldenburger for a touchdown (65-yards). The Bucs would score 5 inutes later in the first quarter when Patrick O'Brien would run in a 2-yard touchdown. The second quarter would see Harlem once again score on a 2-yard run. Belvidere would be held in check in the quarter. They would get close several times but would fail to put it in the end zone.

Injuries also were a factor in the first half for Belvidere. Starting QB, Kyle Tevebaugh and starting outside linebackers, Mike Whitt and Isaah Forrest would go out in the first half but would return later in the game to help the Bucs to victory.

After coming out of the locker room in the third quarter, the Bucs looked like a different team scoring 27 unaswered points (Tiras Harris-9-yard run, Travis Weinsheim-43-yard fumble return, Patrick O'Brien-68-yard run and Kyle Tevebaugh-4 yard run). The fourth quarter both teams would hold each other from scoring until deep into the fourth quarter. At the 1:18 mark of the fourth, Harlem would run ina 12-yard touchdown.

The Bucs go against the Guilford Vikings (1-1) next week at Guilford. Good luck Bucs!

JV GAME

  The JV game would be played on Saturday, 9/1/07 at Harlem. Nik Flagg would throw for 2 touchdown. Matt Safranek would rush one touchdown in and Juan Febuz would have a touchdown off of a fumble recovery. The final score would be Bucs-28, Huskies-0.
