Belvidere Bucs vs. Guilford Vikings (Varsity)
09/07/07

The Belvidere Bucs would go to Swanson Stadium looking for their 3rd NIC- win of the season against the Guilford Vikings.  Unfortunately it did not go the way that they had planned as the Vikings had other ideas as evidenced by their win on Friday night, 34-20.

The Bucs and the Vikings would see-saw back and forth during the first half trading the ball back and forth and eventually trading scoring.  The Bucs would strike first with a 2 yard run by Bucs’ quarterback, Kyle Tevebaugh from the 2-yard line.  He would kick kick the extra point and it would be 7-0.  The Vikings would respond and score with a 17-yard pass to Burks from Beal.  The kick from Anderson would be good and at the end of the first quarter the score would be 7 all.  Much like the first quarter , the scoring  would be the same.  Bucs Running Back, Tiras Harris would score from the 3-yard line.  The Bucs would try for a 2-point conversion that would fail, bringing the score 3-7.  The Vikings would also score in the 2nd quarter with Mordick rushing in from the 6-yard line for the TD. 

The second half was a different story.  It was pretty much all Guilford.  During the 3rd quarter Beal would run in a touchdown on a 14-yard run.  With the extra point kick, the score would be 20-13, Guilford.  During the 4th quarter, Guilford would score twice; once on a Burks 79-yard fumble recovery and on a 31-yard Leavy run.  The Bucs would score once during the quarter on a 5-yard run from fullback, Patrick O’Brien.

The Bucs would have great numbers on paper; 27 first downs, 303 yards rushing, 156 yards passing but it just wasn’t enough to overpower the Vikings’ defense in the second half…at least not on this Friday night.

The Bucs next opponent is Freeport at home, who incidentally beat BNHS this week, 40-21.  Good luck Bucs and keep your heads high!!!

 

P.S.  Apologies to everyone as there not as many Varsity pictures this week as there usually are, and no Freshman or Sophomore pictures.  Unfortunately I was overseas on business with my “real job” and after a 32 hour journey raced to just make part of the 3rd quarter and all of the 4th of the Varsity game.
