Belvidere Bucs vs. the Harlem Huskies (Varsity)
09/10/10

MACHESNEY PARK - Despite several starters on the Harlem team not dressing and an early injury to the starting quarterback, the Huskies managed to pull away with a win over Belvidere, 35-28. The Bucs came into the contest looking for their second win of the season but just could not put it together in the end. Both the Bucs and Huskies were heavily penalized throughout the contest chalking up a combined 22 penalties for 175 yards.

The first half, the Bucs would score twice. The first would be a 9-yard run by Dallas Stevens late in the second quarter with 0.09 seconds left in the half, Bucs quarterbac, Troy Vandenbroek would pass 10-yards to receiver, Cody Colquett. The Bucs would be down a touchdown, 21-14 at the half.

The third quarter would see the Bucs score on a 68-yard pass from Vandenbroek to running back, Marcus Gooden. This would bring Harlem's lead t28*21 as Harlem would score earlier in the quarter off of a 2-yard run.

In the final quarter, Belvidere would again score when halfback, David Gamboa would run the ball in from the 11 to tie the game 28 all. On the following series, the Bucs defense would would hold off the Huskies forcing Harlem to punt the ball. David Gamboa would call fair catch for the ball. He would miss catching the ball and the Huskeies would jump on the ball. Unfortunately, for the Bucs, the officials said that the ball was touched Huskies would regain possession and eventually score. This would put Harlem up 35-28 which would end up being the final score.

Next week, Belvidere returns to Funderburg Stadium to play the Guilford Vikings.  Come on out and support the Bucs.
