Belvidere Bucs vs. the Guilford Vikings (Varsity)

Rockford, IL-The Bucs come into this week with a .500 record (2-2). They would seek to improve to 3-2 with a win against the Guilford Vikings. unfortunately, Dontrel Chance, Justin Carroll and company would see differently.


The first quarter, Guilford would be the first on the scoreboard.  The Vikings scored just a minute into the game with Chance making a breakaway run of 56 yards on Guilford's second play of the game.  The Bucs would answer right  back with an impressive 14 play drive culminating with Gooden making a 4 yard run into the end zone.  Guilford would score on their next series with Justin Carroll going in from 2 yards out.   The Bucs would get the ball on the next series and turn the ball over when Buc quarterback, Troy Vandenbroek fumble the ball at the  40 yard line.  The Vikings would capitalize on the mistake and drive down the field and score on 8 plays (Chance with a 5 yard run).  This would make the score 22-6, Guilford.The Bucs’ next drive, in the second quarter, would be Gooden’s second scoring drive.  The Bucs would go 4 plays and score on a an 11 yard run by Gooden.  Guilford would go 3 and out on their next drive eventually punting the ball.  The Bucs would take over and would turn the ball over on a Vandenbroek interception.  Again, the Vikings would capitalize on the Buc mistake and score on 3 plays.  The end of the first half would see Guilford with 30 and Belvidere with 13.

The second half would only see two scores.  In the third quarter Guilford would hold Belvidere with 4 and 3 which would force the Bucs to kick a 22 yard field goal from kicker Jonas Pedersen.In the fourth quarter, Guilford’s Justin Carroll get his second rushing touchdown with a 48- yard run.  The score at the end of the game would be 36-16, Guilford.

Chance (147 yards) and Carroll (130 yards) would account for 277 yards of the 303 yards rushing that Guilford would register. On the Belvidere side, fullback, Marcus Gooden would account for 128 of the 178 yards rushing.

Next week is Homecoming for Belvidere. The Bucs will go against the Freeport Pretzels at Funderburg Stadium. Come on out and support the Bucs.
