Belvidere Bucs vs. Auburn Knights (Varsity)
10/19/07

The Bucs would look to finish out the last game of the season with a decisive win. The Knights looked to do the same. The Bucs would get what they wished for with a win, 41-23. The win finishes the Bucs season with a 7-2 record.

The first quarter would see the Bucs score twice. The first score would be on the Bucs first drive down the field (14 plays for 67 yards) culminating with Patrick O'Brien rushing in from the 2-yard line to score. The Bucs would then run the 2-point conversion, putting the Bucs first on the board, 8-0 with 7:27 in the first quarter.

The second quarter, the Bucs would see the Bucs march down the field and score on 10 plays for 89-yards. Of those 89 yards, Chris Gust would supply 31 of them with a pass from Kyle Tevebaugh. Gust would also score on this drive from the 1 yard line. With Tevebaugh's kick being good the score would then be, 15-0. The Knights would then answer back and get their first points on the board running 4 plays and scoring on a 19-yard passing play from Bonner to Bowling. The Bucs would again score before the end of the half on another 1-yard O'Brien run. At the end of 2 quarters, the score would be 15-7, Bucs.

The third quarter, Tiras Harris would score with a 6-yard run at the 9:27 mark. Possession would change between the two teams several times and the quarter would end with the Bucs being ahead 28-7. The Bucs would start the 4th quarter with the ball on Auburn's 10-yard line off of Auburn's turnover on downs. The failed 4-15 conversion by the Knights would prove costly as the Bucs would run Alex Moore 8-yards and then 2-yards for the score. At this point possession kept changing hands through a series of fumbles and interceptions by both sides. Eventually, Auburn would score on a 6-yard run. The score would be 35-15. The Bucs final score came with 2:29 left when Matt Safranek would run in from the 5-yard line for the TD. Auburn would answer right back with 3 plays scoring on a 67 yard pass. The game final would be 41-23.

The Bucs look to be a solid pick in the playoffs finishing with a 7-2 record in the NIC-10. The playoff pairings will be determined on Saturday around 8:15pm. Good luck Bucs!!!
