North vs Guilford

The Belvidere North Blue Thunder sophomore football team fell victim to the Guilford Vikings by a huge margin. The Thunder had a very good 1st quarter of the game and let the Vikings at one time. They had 14 points early off of two touchdown passes with the #11, Ryan Gamble and #13, Kurt Siemsen combination. Gamble would connect numerous times with Siemsen in the first half of the game. The second touchdown and 2-point conversion would end the 1st quarter with a score of Thunder 14, Vikings 7.
At 9:52 in the 2nd quarter Guilford would convert on a 3 yard run for a score. They would split the uprights for the successful PAT, now the score was tied at 14.
The Thunder quickly responded with a 70 yard pass from Gamble to Siemsen to setup a 1 yard TD run for Gamble. The Vikings blocked the PAT so the score was Thunder 10, Vikings 14.
Something seemed to change from this point forward in the game. At 8:32 Guilford’s #35 scored another touchdown from 55 yards out. #35, would prove to be a problem for the Thunder throughout the rest of the game. The PAT would be good and the score was 21-20 Vikings.
5 minutes later and the Vikings hit again this time from 42 yards out. The PAT was good and the score was 28-20 Vikings. The Thunder defense stepped up and stopped the Vikings on their next drive. #72, Antwoine Brown, recovered a Viking fumble and gave the Thunder 1st and 10 on the Thunder 10 yard line. 2 plays later the Thunder throw an interception and Guilford is 1st and 10 on the Thunder 17 yard line. 35.4 seconds on the clock and the Vikings take the 17 yards and score. This time the PAT was no good but the Vikings increase their lead by 14 points. As the clock to the first half of play winds down the Thunder throw an interception. The score at the half is Vikings 34, Thunder 20.
The Thunder kicks off to the Vikings to begin the 2nd half and the Vikings return the ball to the 50 yard line. On the 1st play of their possession #35, sprints 50 yards for another score. The PAT was good and now the Vikings lead 41-20. The Thunder self destruct from this point forward. The Vikings score at 3:53, no PAT 47-20; 1:52, 17 yards blocked PAT 53, 20; 13.4 25 yards no PAT the score that would end the 3rd quarter was Vikings 59, Thunder 20.
Early in the 4th the Vikings scored one last time on a punt return of 55 yards. The PAT was good and the final score of the game was Vikings 65, Thunder 20.
Coach Drop said this to his team “we were good at the beginning and not so good at the end, we need to keep it deep down in your heart we can do this” They will begin working on next weeks plans Saturday morning at 7:00 am.

The Belvidere North Blue Thunder varsity football team came to Swanson Stadium to play football and it showed. The Thunder was pumped up and the charge was mainly led by #55, Ryan Karns. Karns is a motivating player always trying to get his team ready for the next series. Unfortunately, the Thunder would be forced to punt after their first three plays on the first possession. The Vikings would begin their first possession on their own 47 yard line. The Vikings would be successful at driving the Thunder deep into their own territory and eventually getting a score. After whacking a lot of time off of the clock the Vikings hit with a 2 yard TD run and a successful PAT. So the Vikings were on the board first 7-0.
The main spark in the 2nd quarter came at the midway point with an exciting interception by #13, Alex Tripp. Tripp snatched the ball out of the sky and sprinted 47 yards for the first Thunder score of the night. 310, Ethan Hauser was good for the PAT and the score was tied at 7 a piece. Guilford battled back and ate more time from the clock. At 1:04 the Vikings took the ball in 6 yards for the score and nailed the PAT pushing their lead back to 7 points. The Thunder looked like they were going to manage the clock and march down the field and score. With the clock reading 25.3 seconds the Thunder fumbles the ball and Guilford recovers and returns the ball to the 29 yard line. The buzzer goes off and the teams hit the end zones for half time.
A couple of minutes come off of the clock and the Thunder throws an interception. The Vikings return the ball all the way down to the Thunder 6 yard line. 3 plays later the Vikings take the ball in the 1 yard for the score. They connect on the PAT, the score 21-7 Vikings. In previous games the Thunder might be a bit demoralized but I noticed that they were very focused tonight and did not give up the fight. The 3rd quarter would end with the score Vikings 21, Thunder 7.
In the 4th quarter both teams battled back and forth and ate up lots of clock time. This hurt the Thunder because it was diminishing their time to push ahead. The momentum was leaning in their direction and with just a little over 2 minutes left in the game the Thunder scores a touchdown. It came off of a 5 yard run from QB Larson. Hauser was in for the PAT and nailed it. The score was now Vikings 21, Thunder 14. Karns got the defense all pumped up and it looked like maybe they would have another chance to score. The Vikings on the other hand worked the clock to their advantage and was able to squeak out the win. It was good to see the intensity that the Thunder had this week. Good job guys.
