Belvidere North Sophomores Fall to Freeport

The Belvidere North Blue Thunder sophomores got hit early by a 3rd play touchdown from the Freeport Pretzels. On the 3rd play of the game the Pretzels put together a long run for a touchdown. The PAT was no good but the score was 6-0 Freeport.

The first score for the Thunder came at 9:34 in the 2nd quarter with a 27 yard run from #47, Andres Coral up the middle of the line. The 2-point conversion attempt was no good and the game was tied at 6 a piece.

Freeport connected at 6:00 remaining in the half with a 32 yard touchdown pass. The 2-point conversion was no good. The six more points made the Pretzels lead 12-6. The next score would come right at the buzzer for the 1st half of play. Freeport connects on a 39 yard pass reception for a touchdown. This time PAT would be good and the score going into the locker room was Pretzels 19, Thunder 6.

The Thunder came out with a bit of spark for the start of the 3rd quarter. #58, Taylor Anquano, recovers a Freeport fumble with mid field position. The Thunder was unable to execute and take advantage of recovering the turnover. The Pretzels would end up taking over on downs on their own 41 yard line. The 3rd quarter would end with no additional scores from either team.

The teams would change directions as the 4th quarter begins. Very early in fact the 1st play from scrimmage the Pretzels take the ball 55 yards for a touchdown. They are good with the PAT and the Pretzels stretch their lead by 20 with a score of 26-6.

A couple minutes later a Thunder pass was picked off and the Pretzels had 1st and 10 on the Thunder 28 yard line. It would not last the next play the Thunder defense hammers the Pretzel ball carrier and he fumbles the ball with a Thunder recovery. The Thunder cannot move the ball and the Pretzels get possession again. Shortly thereafter the Thunder pick off a Pretzel pass giving the Thunder 1st and 10 on their own 10 yard line.

The game would end with the Thunder falling to Freeport with a score of 26 – 6.

Thunder Gets Whacked by Pretzels

The Thunder received an old fashion whacking Friday night by the Freeport Pretzels. This reporter will say this about the Thunder; they never gave up the fight to win the game. I saw intensity on each player and class even though the score was not in their favor. The words of the Athletic Director to always be the consummate athlete were definitely demonstrated Friday night. Well done Thunder and kick some butt this coming homecoming week.

The Thunder received the opening kick-off from the Pretzels and returned the ball to the 32 yard line. #13, Alex Tripp, Thunder standout was the return man. Unfortunately, a penalty brought the ball back to mid field. The Thunder pounded at the Pretzel defense but could not get the ball moved. The Thunder ends up turning the ball over on downs to the Pretzels.

At 7:05 the Pretzels drew first blood by scoring a 17 yard touchdown run off of the right side of the line. It took just 5 plays to go the 90 yards to the end zone for the score. The PAT was good and the Pretzels were out first and would not look back. Score 7-0.

The Thunder was back to receive the kick-off again and made another penalty that put them back deep into their own territory. 1st and 10 on the Thunder 9 yard line. At 5:50 the Thunder fumbles the ball but is able to recover the ball back at their own ½ yard line. This put the Thunder at a 4th and 20 situation. The punt makes it out to the Thunder 38 yard line. On the very next play the Pretzels take the ball the 38 yards for the score. The PAT was good and the Pretzels are out 14-0 with 5:21 left in the 1st.

At 2:33 the Thunder turns the ball over to the Pretzels on their own 38 yard line. 1minute 5 seconds later the Pretzels connect with a 59 yard touchdown pass. Again they were dead on with the PAT and the score was Pretzels 21, Thunder 0.

The 2nd quarter begins and neither team scores until 4:09 when the Pretzels connect with a 28 yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good and the score was now Pretzels 28, Thunder 0.

The Thunder hits the scoreboard with 2:33 remaining in the 1st half of the game with an exciting run by #10, Corey Wennmacher. #64, Lauren Waddell comes in for the PAT and nails it to make the score Pretzels 28, Thunder 7.

The first half scoring was not finished with the Pretzels scoring again with 1:42 left. The score was a 5 yard run and the PAT was good. 35-7 Pretzels.

Now, Tripp was not defeated, he returned the kick off for a touchdown breaking numerous tackles along the way and just sprinted past the rest. The run was about 87 yards and Waddell was good for the PAT. Pretzels 35, Thunder 14, halftime.

The Pretzels receive the 2nd half kick off and return the ball to very good field position at mid field. At 9:04 they connect on a 24 yard touchdown pass. A flag was thrown on the play. Illegal procedure negated the PAT. They get backed up 5 yards and get a do over. Only the do over was no good so the score was Pretzels 41, Thunder 14.

At 6:31 the Thunder is forced to turn the ball over on downs to the Pretzels on the Thunder 39 yard line. 2 plays later #42, David Yurevich recovers a Pretzel fumble on the Thunder 23 yard line. The Thunder still cannot move the ball and throws and interception. There is 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and the score is Pretzels 48 with a good PAT, Thunder 14.

Wennmacher’s chance to show the Pretzels he is not giving up. With :36 remaining in the 3rd Wennmacher takes the ball 27 yards for a score. Waddell in for the PAT, they fake and end up with an ineligible man down field penalty which backs up the Thunder 5 yards for a do over. This time Waddell nails the PAT making the score Pretzels 48, Thunder 21.

The final score of the game would come at 2:37 with a pass connection between Wennmacher and #86, Josh Lutzow. The PAT was bobbled and the holder attempt to pass but the pass was dropped by the receiver.

The final score of the game was Pretzels 48, Thunder 27.
