Sophomore Thunder Beats East 36-8.

It was a beautiful night for a homecoming football game. It would turn out to be a great night for both teams at Funderburg stadium. Star QB #2, Tony Tindle is back to receive the opening kick-off for the Thunder. The ball is shanked way short and goes out of bounds at mid field. The Thunder would move the ball but were still forced to end their first possession by punting to the E-Rabs.

At 3:42 Tindle takes the ball 8 yards for the score, out running the East defense to the right corner of the end zone. The 2-point conversion would be good and the Thunder was out in front 8-0.

A little over 3 minutes was off the clock in the 2nd quarter when the E-Rabs fumbled a punt and it was recovered by Thunder player #55, Reece Hampton. A few plays later and the Thunder score their second TD off of a 5 yard run from #21, Austin Smaha. The 2-point conversion was good off a pass from Tindle to #10, Richie Yech. This would put the score 16-0 Thunder going into halftime.

The first score of the 3rd quarter would come with Tindle grabbing an East pass out of the air and sprinting 30 yards into the end zone. Tindle is a player to watch over the next couple of years I assure you. The 2-point conversion was no good and the score was now Thunder 22, East 0.

The E-Rabs finally broke the goal line with a 5 yard run. They completed the 2-point conversion to put 8 points up on the board. The score was now Thunder 22, E-Rabs 8.

This was answered with a Thunder razzle dazzle play for a score. Tindle hands off to Yech who passes it back to Tindle in the end zone. The 2-point conversion was good and the Thunder add another 8 points to the scoreboard.

The next Thunder score came early in the 4th quarter as Smaha ran 45 yards off of the left tackle for the score. The 2-point conversion was no good but there was a penalty on the play. Pass interference brought the ball back for the Thunder to try again. This time #24, Dillon Montalto kept the ball and scores the 2 points. Thunder is leading 36-8 this would end up being the final score of the game.

Congrats to the sophomore team on their homecoming victory.

Varsity Thunder Wins Homecoming Game.

With a victory from the sophomore team it was now time for the varsity to win as well. The opening kickoff was less than stellar for the East E-Rabs and was covered by #10, Corey Wennmacher on the 28 yard line of the Thunder.  

The varsity used their own razzle dazzle play for a 1st down early in the 1st quarter. Coach Tobin called a fake punt from #13, Alex Tripp to #31, Jake Billon and the play hit the mark, 1st down Thunder.

First blood was drawn on the E-Rabs at 7:30 in the 1st quarter with Wennmacher keeping the ball and going 6 yards for the score. #64, Lauren Waddell was good with the PAT and the score was Thunder 7, E-Rabs 0.

With just 33.7 seconds remaining in the 1st quarter Waddell attempted a field goal but it was blocked by the East defense. The quarter would end with the Thunder leading 7-0.

Early in the 2nd quarter #22, Ken Anderson who would end up having over 200 yards rushing for the game scored a 5 yard touchdown. Waddell was good for the PAT and the score was now Thunder 14, E-Rabs 0.

At 4:50 #33, Garret Thresher intercepts an East pass in the end zone. He returns the ball to the ½ yard line where the Thunder will have 1st in 10 in dangerous territory. Wennmacher slams the ball out to about the 8 yard line. The clock dwindles down to 26.3 seconds in the first half and the Thunder throws an interception. At 11.3 remaining #21, Dominique Hall returns the favor and intercepts East and gives the Thunder 1st and 10 on the 28 yard line. The score going to half time break is Thunder 14, East 0.

East takes the 2nd half opening kick-off on the 26 yard line. At 6:12 Wennmacher takes a 35 yard run for the end zone. Waddell is good for the PAT and the score is Thunder 21, East 0. The Thunder would control the rest of the 3rd quarter of play.

At 8:27 left in the game Wennmacher connects with #85, Doug Traceski for a 38 yard touchdown pass. Again Waddell hits the PAT and the Thunder goes up another 7 points to 28.

At 5:54 from a 4th and 4 yard situation East finally gets on the board. The PAT was no good but the score which would be the final was Thunder 28, East 6.

This was a hard hitting game this week and the team should be proud of their victory. To all who attend homecoming please have fun and be safe.
