Thunder Battle Hard Against Boylan

Sophomore Thunder Falls to Titans 37-14.

The opening of the sophomore football game Friday night was about as exciting as football can get. #2, Tony Tindle back to receive the kick-off gets the ball and runs about 70 yards for a touchdown. As the QB Tindle then converts the 2-point to go ahead of Boylan 8-0 in about 13 seconds.

Boylan was not shaken however and returns the Thunder kick-off back about 70 yards for a touchdown. They convert the 2-point and the score is now tied in less than 1 minute of regulation play.

At 2:38 Boylan coughs up the ball and the Thunder recover the ball. This puts the Thunder on their own 49 yard line. #76, Josh Dummer was the Thunder player to cover the turnover.

With only :05 seconds left in the 1st quarter #10, Richie Yech recovers the ball as Boylan turns it over. The Thunder would not be able to move the ball and are forced to punt it away.

There was only one score in the 2nd quarter and that came on a 45 yard TD pass for Boylan. They were good with the PAT and the score was Boylan 15, Thunder 8.

The Titans would pull away from the Thunder beginning in the 3rd quarter. Early in the 3rd quarter they post a 7 yard TD run but fail to make the PAT giving Boylan a 13 point lead.

At 3:37 Boylan hits the end zone again from 8 yards out. This time the PAT was good and the score was 28-8 in favor of Boylan. The Thunder did not help themselves out when on the Boylan kick-off they fumbled the ball and the Titans recovered on the Thunder 25 yard line. Boylan tries a couple of plays to move the ball and then decides to kick a field goal from the 22 yard line. It was through the uprights and the score was 31-8.

At 7:01 in the 4th quarter the Boylan QB keeps the ball and sprints 9 yards for a score. The PAT was called back on a Thunder penalty giving the Titans another chance. This time the 2-point conversion was no good and the score was Titans 37, Thunder 8.

Half way through the 4 the quarter Tindle scampers into the end zone from 42 yards out for 6 points. The attempted 2-point conversion failed and the score was Titans 37, Thunder 14.

This would end up being the final score of the sophomore game. It was a hard fought game for both teams.

Thunder Battle Hard Against Boylan

Friday night’s game against the Boylan Titans was one of the best football contests that this reporter has seen for quite some time. Boylan comes to the field has the dominate favorite to stomp on the Blue Thunder. The fact is that it did not happen.

There was over 5 ½ minutes eaten away at the clock in the 1st quarter before the Thunder was forced to punt the ball away. Boylan would get the ball almost at mid field. The Thunder defense was hard as nails in the 1st quarter and held the Boylan Titans to zero going into the 2nd.

However, very early in the 2nd quarter the Titans were able to put the first points up on the board. This came off of a 3 yard run off of the left side of the line. The PAT was good and the score was 7-0 Boylan.

Mid way through the 2nd quarter #10, Corey Wennmacher finds #85, Doug Traceski, for a score. #64, Lauren Waddell just missed the PAT so the score was Thunder 6, Boylan 7.
This would be the score going into half time.

There were no scores in the 3rd quarter just some hard hitting football. Boylan fumbled the ball once and the Thunder recovered the ball and with a penalty on the Thunder the ball was placed on their own 35 yard line.

Things began to unravel a bit in the 4th quarter for the Thunder. It began at the 10:29 mark when the Thunder was forced to turn the ball over on downs to the Titans on the Boylan 36 yard line. Boylan would score off of that turnover at 4:44 with a 9 yard run. The PAT would split the uprights and Boylan would go ahead by 8 points.

At 2:37 Boylan would cross the end line again and would hit the PAT making the score 21-6 Titans. The Thunder was not giving up. There were seniors on this team that desperately wanted to beat the Boylan team after losing to them all previous years of high school.

With just over a minute left Wennmacher breaks the goal line after many successful completions to #7, Stan Park and #31, Jake Billon. Waddell was good on the PAT but the score would be Titans 21, Thunder 13. 

This would end up being the final score but it does not reflect how hard these kids played the game. The intensity was there and they were doing everything they could to get the victory.

An emotional team and coaches huddled near the bench at the end of the game with Coach Tobin telling his team “this was a great job you hold your head up high. You all played your hearts out and I am so proud of all of you. This is one of the best games that I have ever coached I am so proud of you.”

This was an exciting game and the Thunder was just slightly out of reach of victory. A couple minor penalties or high snaps gone and the final score might have been different. If Boylan was the team to beat, the Thunder showed the NIC-10 that they are a team to be reckoned with. Good game Thunder.
