VARSITY GAME

Thunder Varsity Moves on to IHSA 6A Quarterfinals.

BNHS-29 HUBBARD-26

Finally high school game without rain.  The Milt Brown Stadium at Belvidere North was host to the second round of the 6A IHSA playoffs.

Chicago Hubbard would get on the board first by going to the air.  A 31- yard pass from Sophomore quarterback, Quincy Skanes, to an open receiver, Senior Kevin Collins.  Three minutes later the Greyhounds would score again when Senior, Ronnie Oliver, would run the ball in for the touchdown from the one-yard line.  The score would be 14-0, Hubbard with 7 minutes left in the 1st quarter.  The Blue Thunder would respond at the 2:29 mark by intercepting a Hubbard ball and going on offense at the 3-yard line.  Blue Thunder quarterback, Tony Tindle, would run the ball in from the 3 at the 2:16 mark in the 1st quarter.  The score at the end of the quarter would be 14-7.  The second quarter would see both teams stalemate each other despite several opportunities.  The score going into halftime would be 14-7.

The third quarter would only see one touchdown.  Belvidere North would tie the game up 14-14 at the 5:52 mark of  the 3rd quarter.  Tindle would pass the ball to running back, Zack Stinson, who would run 86-yards for the TD.  The fourth quarter would prove to be very exciting and would see both teams teeter-totter back and forth and come down to the wire.  The Greyhounds would score first in the quarter at the 10:33 mark.  Hubbard’s Oliver would run the ball in from the 5-yard line putting Hubbard ahead, 21-14.  5 minutes later the Blue Thunder would score at the 5:53 mark off of a Tindle to running back, Dylan Roberts, p12 yard pass.  The 2 point conversion try would be no good.  Hubbard is now up 21-20.  With 5:31 left in the game, Hubbard would answer back with a 69-yard run from Oliver.  This would be Oliver’s 3rd TD of the day.  Hubbard would also go for the 2-point conversion and that would be no good as well.  With 2:36 left in the game, Tindle would again pass to Rtoberts for the TD.  This time for a 58 yard pass.  The 2 point pass conversion, again from Tindle to Roberts, would be good.  Ths would put the Blue Thunder up 29-26.  The Greyhounds would have a last shot at the end zone.  They would go to their “go to” guy of the game, Ronnie Oliver, who with 28 seconds left on the clock and 8 yards to go for a TD, would fumble the ball and would seal the Greyhounds fate.  Belvidere North wins! Belvidere North wins!

The 14th seeded Blue Thunder move into the 6A IHSA Quarterfinals against 10th seeded Prairie Ridge of Crystal Lake, who upset 2nd seeded Marmion Academy, 31-7 on Friday.
The day and time of the game will be announced by the IHSA on Monday, November 9th at 1:00pm.  Congratulations Blue Thunder!
