FOOTBALL BSMS 8TH GRADE VS. BURLINGTON CENTRAL (A GAME) Date: 9/10/09 The Belvidere South 8th grade football team finally got a start to their season Thursday against Burlington Central. It turned out to be a great start with the BSMS Bucs winning 52-6. The scoring started on the second play from scrimmage with Maurice Jackson going outside right for 63 yards and a quick touchdown. A mix-up in the backfield ruined the 2-point conversion. The score was 6-0. A Burlington fumble game the Bucs the ball inside the 30 and Josh Walker scored off tackle from 20 yards out. Jackson converted the PAT and Belvidere was up 14-0. A stalled Burlington possession resulted in their punting. On the punt return, Jacob Fondryk scampered left and scored from 40 yards out. Josh Walker took in the conversion try and the Bucs were ahead 22-0. After a fumble recovery by Belvidere, Walker scored again, another touchdown, up the middle from just 3 yards out. The PAT this time was no good. The score stood at 28-0. All this occured in the 1st quarter!!! The second quarter started with Jackson running 35 yards and Fondryk adding the conversion. Bucs ahead, 36-0. Connor Boland got in on the scoring, rushing for a 10-yard score up the middle. Alex Slaven bull-dogged for the conversion. Now the score was 44-0 and there was still 3 minutes left in the half. A running clock was started and the half closed at that score. The second half saw more running clock, a lot of reserve players, and finally a Burlington score. With the score 44-6, Boland added to his scoring total by returning an interception 40 yards. Fondryk ran in the extra point attempt and finalized the scoring at 52-6. Defensively, Devon Dean led the aggressive attack with 15 tackles, Joe Byers had 8, and everyone contibuted to Burlington ending with negative yards offensively. Coaches Comment: "We had an excellent first game, especially since we didn't practice well offensively Wednesday. Our defense was outstanding and our offense ran the plays the way they needed to. We've got a long way to go, but our future looks promising." Next week:
