The South Bucs improved to 2-0 as the "A" team defeated Dekalb Huntley 12-8 Thursday.  The Bucs received the opening kickoff and stalled on 2 drives to open the game.  As the offense struggled to get going, the defense was solid as Dekalb was unable to move as well.  In the second quarter, Belvidere put together a strong drive with Ismael Cortes running strong left and right.  He gained 33 yards on this drive alone.  A long pass from Adam Becker to Chris Colquett gained 47 yards and eventually, it was Maurice Jackson scoring the touchdown to put the Bucs ahead 6-0.  A fumbled conversion attempt held the score there.

Int he second half, it was again Cortes bulling his way forward, this time scoring himself from 3 yards out.  Another botched conversion and the Bucs led 12-0.  Dekalb was never able to mount any offensive attack, but Belvidere gave them a break by fumbling the football away as Huntley scored on a return of 64 yards.   There 2-point conversion put them back in the game at 12-8.

Belvidere went back on offense and stayed there to run out the clock, ending the game.

Defensively, Colquett had 7 unassissted tackles on the corner, Joe Byers had 6 tackles, KC Pavlak had 6 tackles, Jackson had 5 tackles to lead the way.

Coaches Comment:  "We knew this would be a very difficult game.  They had a lot of size up front.  We stayed aggresive on defense and played pretty well against a good football team."

Next week:

Monday at Sycamore "B"
