BSMS 8TH GRADE VS. SYCAMORE (A GAME)

Result: Sycamore "A"-6 BSMS Bucs "A"-0 Double Overtime
Belvidere South's 8th Grade football team lost a heartbreaker Thursday night in double overtime to the Sycamore Spartans, 6-0. It was a defensive battle all the way, marked by many Bucs' errors, tough hitting, and relentless play on both sides of the ball.
Sycamore started with the opening kickoff, drove the ball for 3 first downs, but was stopped at the Buc 36-yard line. Belvidere took over, made a couple of first downs, but turned it over on a fumble. Back and forth it went with big plays going to each defensive side. A muffed punt return gave Sycamore a possession the shouldn't have had. Missed blocks led to poor plays and fumbles stopped any drive Belvidere was able to mount.
The second half kickoff by Sycamore led to another botch by the Bucs. The kick failed to go 10 yards, but was touched by a Belvidere player and Sycamore recovered. Their drive was stopped, but field position was in Sycamore's favor. A Buc punt, off of the short blocker's backside and recovered and returned by Sycamore set up first and goal at the 9-yard line. But the Buc defense held.
The game ended regulation 0-0. In the first overtime, Sycamore's offense went backward, didn't score, but either did the Buc's offense. In the second overtime, Belvidere got to the 1 on first down, but could not get in from there. Sycamore scored on a fumble into the end zone with the quarterback recovering his own fumble and scoring the needed touchdown.
Coaches Comment: "Our defense played exceptionally well the whole game. Joe Byers, KC Pavlak, Devon Dean, Ismael Cortes, Chris Colquett, Jacob Fondrk, Maurice Jackson all played outstanding games. We didn't do the job on the offensive line and couldn't consistently move the ball. Add to that numerous mistakes and it's a recipe for a loss!"
