BSMS 8TH GRADE VS. PRAIRIE KNOLLS (A GAME)

Belvidere South Middle School's 8th Grade football team travelled to Burlington Prairie Knolls Thursday and soundly defeated them 27-0 on a damp, overcast day. The scoring started on a 23-yard touchdown catch from Jacob Fondrk to Chris Colquett. Colquett made a nice leaping grab over the defender and ran untouched into the endzone. The 2 point conversion was no good.
Ismael Cortes scored later in the first quarter on a 6-yard scamper with Maurice Jackson adding the conversion putting BSMS up 14-0. That came on the heels of a Jackson interception and return of 33 yards.
Finishing the scoring in the 1st half, Jackson scored from 27 yards on a nice Fondrk pass. The try for an extra point kick was no good.
In the second half, Prairie Knolls had a nice drive down to Belvidere's 2 yard line before stalling. Then, in just 3 plays, the Bucs were on the board again. Ripping off huge gains of 45 yards and 26 yards was Cortes. Then Devon Dean ran outside left end to score. BSMS then kicked its first PAT of the season. Connor Boland accomplished that with a nice snap by Garrett Hyser and hold by Colquett. That finished the scoring at 27-0.
Defensively, KC Pavlak had double digit tackles for the Bucs. Chris Colquett was strong at his cornerback position and Joe Byers did his usual steady job at D-End.
Weather conditions cancelled the "B" game earlier in the week, so a 5th quarter was played. The Bucs totally outplayed Prairie Knolls there as well, scoring 2 touchdowns to Burlington's 0. Justin McGady scored the first touchdown and Devin Deddo had the other. Defensively, Dominicke Gayles had an interception.
Coaches Comment: "We played a solid game today and now have Belvidere Central on Saturday to look forward to. I'm expecting a good, hard fought game, and if we play to our potential, we should come out on top!"
