BSMS at Burlington Central (7th Grade)

Belvidere South Middle School's 7th Grade Bucs "A" football team suffered their first defeat of the season Thursday at Burlington, 8-6. Belvidere started the scoring with Dalton Gooding moving the pile 1 yard in for a touchdown. With the 2-point conversion no good, the Bucs led 6-0. After a few possession changes, a mishandled pitch let to a Burlington safety, bringing the score to 6-2 where the first half ended.South Middle School mishandled the opening kickoff, giving the ball to Burlington with good field position. After a long run, Burlington scored to go up 8-6 where the scoring ended. The Bucs had 4th quarter opportunities to move the ball, completing a few passes by Taylor Arrango and a 30-yard run by Shane Mains, but were unable to finish a drive with a score. Offensive highlights include the pass completions from Arrango to Mains and to Staples. Running the ball well included Mains and Cole Johnson. Defensively, Luke Hearn and Mains played well at defensive end, Anthony DeMito played well at middle linebacker and Trevor Austin was tough up the middle of the line. Interceptions were made by Dylan Barr and Carlton Hunt.

Coaches Comment: "We made some mistakes we didn't make last week. Part of that was a tougher opponent that I didn't think the team was prepared for. We'll get better. We'll fix the mistakes we made, execute better and come out with a better game next week."
