FOOTBALL BSMS vs. DeKalb Huntley (7th Grade) Belvidere South 7th Grade Bucs: 18 Dekalb Huntley: 0 The 7th grade Bucs played host to Dekalb Huntley Thursday, Sept. 20. Huntley started the game in good field position after the opening kickoff went out-of-bounds. After a nice 1st down gain, the Bucs stiffened on defense forcing a 4th down punt. The Bucs took over at their own 30 for their first offensive series. A fullback dive by Luke Hearn netted 5 yards. Then on the second offensive play, Shane Mains got outside and took the ball 65 yards for a Buc touchdown. A failed conversion left the score 6-0. Belvidere's second TD was also scored by Mains from 43 yards out. The score was preceded by a couple of long punt returns by Josh Hauser. Unfortunately, both were brought back by penalties. The first was a running into the kicker penalty completely wiping out the play. The second was a clip which brought the play back but BSMS kept the ball. Hauser showed quick moves and deceptive speed on both returns. Mains scored shortly after the returns. The Bucs had 2 other touchdowns negated by penalties in the first half but still had a 12-0 lead. The second half saw Belvidere take the opening drive down the field on a sustained drive with Hearn scoring up the middle. Another missed 2-point conversion left the score at 18-0. Reserves dominated the remainder of the game keeping the score at 18-0. While the offense got the scores, it was the defense that dominated the game. While stats are not officially kept, Dekalbs offense finished well under -50 yards for the game total. Nearly every Dekalb play ended behind the line of scrimmage. The Bucs were led by defensive ends Mains and Hearn and middle linebacker Anthony DeMito. DeMito clogged the middle with interior linemen Justin Ramos and Brad Ford. Big losses were made outside by the ends and corners Dylan Barr and Nick Umlor. Outside linebackers Cole Johnson and Taylor Arrango were outstanding in the aggressiveness. Safeties Hauser and Nick Kaspar defensed the passes attempted and none were completed. Any substitutions made met with equal success. Ian Staples stepped up and played well and D-End. Carlton Hunt was solid at D-Tackle. Everyone played exceptionally well on defense. Coaches Comment: "Offensively we made some mistakes, especially with our penalties. We could have scored a lot more points and secured the game much earlier. We did block better this game and gave ourselves chances to score on each drive. Defensively, we couldn't have played much better. I'm not sure I've seen more aggressive 7th graders on a football field. It makes the game fun!"
Next games: "B" vs. Sycamore Monday 9/24, "A" game at Sycamore Thursday, 9/27.
