Belvidere South's Eighth Grade football team knew it was in for a tough game this Thursday when Dekalb Rosette scored on the opening play from scrimmage.  A 68-yard run around left end started the play for Rosette.  A fake on the kick conversion put Rosette ahead 8-0.
Belvidere countered on their second possession, scoring on a nice 31 yard pass from Troy Vandenbroek to Max Hendrickson.  The conversion run by Hendrickson tied the game 8-8.

South went ahead later in the second quarter on a Luke Hearn fullback dive from 3 yards out.  Taylor Arrango added 2 points around left end to send the Bucs ahead 16-8.

Rosette countered on some razzle-dazzle type plays, but failed to score the PAT, leaving the Bucs ahead 16-14 at halftime.
The Bucs fumbled away a couple of offensive opportunities in the second half, but added another Luke Hearn score to increase their lead to 22-14.  Dekalb responded soon thereafter to come back to down just 2 points at 22-20.

Rosette was threatening to take the lead late in the game when Belvidere stopped their drive on a 4th and 1 at the 10 yard line.  But 3 plays were stopped for no gain forcing the Bucs to punt.  A poor snap led to a poorly kicked, partially blocked punt that Rosette recovered in the end zone, putting them ahead 26-22.

Getting the ball at their own 32, the Bucs went back on offense.  Vandenbroek carried for 25 yards.  Shane Mains carried for 8 yards.  Hendrickson ran for 12 yards.  The drive ended with Vandenbroek scoring from 6 yards out for the touchdown.  Vandenbroek added the 2-point conversion to put the Bucs ahead 30-26.

A penalty on the conversion allowed Rosette a chance to start in Bucs territory on the last drive of the game.  Nick Umlor intercepted a deep pass to finish that drive and allowing Belvidere to kneel down to finish the game.

Offensively, the Bucs were led by Hendrickson with 76 yards rushing.  His TD reception was the only pass completion of the game.
Defensively, Belvidere gave up a lot of yards to Rosette's passing game, but strong performances were turned in by Vandenbroek at linebacker, Umler at cornerback and Hendrickson at middle linebacker.
