The rain held off Friday night as the North Boone football team took on the Winnebago Indians in the season opener at Winnebago High School. Unfortunately, the Varsity Vikings came away with a 49-0 loss.
The first twelve minutes and 10 seconds seemed to be toughest for the Vikings. The first quarter resulted in three touchdowns, one two point conversion and one safety for Winnebago. North Boone’s Addam Wynstra recovered a Winnebago fumble. This was the only fumble of the game. The score at the end of the first was 22-0.
Just seconds inside the second quarter Winnebago’s quarterback Zack Marrow threw a lateral pass to Michael Woodard for a touchdown. This made the score 29-0 with 11:50 left in the second. From 11:50 left in the second quarter until 4:59 left in the game, a total of 30 minutes and 51 seconds The Vikings allowed only one Winnebago touch down. That touch down came with 9.7 seconds left in the first half. The score at the end of the second and third quarters was 35-0.
The final quarter of the game saw two more Winnebago touchdowns. Winnebago had a 49 yard run with 4:59 left in the game that placed the ball on the North Boone 4 yard line. Jimmy Lynch of Winnebago scored the touchdown. The extra point was good to make the score 42-0. An interception led to the final touchdown by the Indians with 2:57 left in the game. The extra point was good making the final score of 49-0.
Although each Viking football team suffered a disappointing loss, promising players and strong plays left hope for a great season.

The North Boone Jr. Varsity lost to Winnebago 28 to 7. 21 of Winnebago’s 28 points came during the first quarter. Freshman quarterback Alex Albrecht scored the first quarter touchdown for the Vikings. Winnebago was kept scoreless by a tough North Boone defense until the third quarter when they scored their last 7 points for the night. The final score was 28 to 7.
