The North Boone Vikings would try to open their season against the Genoa-Kingston Cogs on Friday (8/25/06) night, but the skies had a say in the matter. After a delay of an hour the officials decided to cancel both the Sophomore and Varsity games. The games would be played on Saturday.
Saturday would prove to be a better day weather-wise, just not score-wise. Both the Varsity and Sophomore Vike squads would lose their contests against the Cogs. The Varsity would lose 39-0 while the Sophomores would love 40-6. This would be Vikings first foray in their new conference, Big Northern, since departing the Four Rivers Conference.
The Cogs would dominate the Varsity game holding the Vikings scoreless and out-rushed North Boone 380 yards to 16. The Vikings’ rushing did improve in the third quarter making headway against the Cogs running the ball 11 times for 47 yards and almost scored.
Despite their losses, the Vikings did hold their heads high as they shook the hands of their opponent. It was clear a victory where the better team won…today. Next Friday is another day and another chance to win. Good luck Vikes at home next Friday (9/1/06). Go Vikings!
