Fantasy Football Nuggets

Facilitated by Mad Mike Leonard

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

There are over 250 NFL regular season games each year and it took less than 60 minutes into the season to have most fantasy owners screaming at their television sets. In the Miami vs. Pittsburgh Thursday night game in Week 1, Heath Miller the talented tight end for the Steelers caught a pass and raced all the way to the end zone for what he hoped was an 87 yd. TD.  Pass. Replays showed EVERYBODY in the world, except the Dolphin coaching staff, that he stepped out of bounds at about the 3yd. line. Everyone who didn’t have Miller on their fantasy team had to be yelling at Head Coach Nick Saban,  “Throw the flag, throw the flag, THROW THE FLAG.” But slick Nick decided to throw the flag weakly onto the field right after the officials turned their back setting up for the point after attempt. The play would stand and I’m sure there was a many T.V. set sent in for repair for “defective” screens.
Roy Williams must always see the glass ½ full. After losing to the Seahawks 9-6, Roy proclaimed they almost scored 40 pts. What?  How do 2 field goals turn into almost 40 pts? On top of that Williams now is guaranteeing a victory over the Chicago Bears. Obviously the NFL needs to tighten their grips on drug testing, because there is one wasted dude wearing #11 in Detroit.

HEARN’S WINNING PCT NOT THREATENED

Well Coach Hearn handed me my lunch (want fries with that?) as his team of all-stars out dueled my working stiffs 54-31. I’ll be coming back for a rematch later on in the season.

MCNAIR HELPS RAVENS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL

The Ravens signing of QB Steve McNair was probably the most important free-agent signing in the off season. The presence of McNair gives Baltimore a legitimate leader on Offense, someone that teammates respect, will listen to, and follow into battle. More important is what he provides to that stifling defense. Now with McNair there, the “D” doesn’t have to cover for an offense that could not sustain drives thus leaving the defense out on the field too long as the 4th quarter would find a tired unit from playing too many plays during the game.

REYNOLDS READY TO WRAP LOSS #2 ON ME

This week the competition doesn’t get any easier as I take on Karen Reynolds, the Athletic Director for Belvidere High School. When I asked her about doing this, the 3rd year AD was her perky self but didn’t know a lot about it. I told her she could ask for help at school and with some help from her team of teachers and students she came up with the following line-up.
