Fantasy Football Nuggets

Eli Steps out of Peyton’s Shadow….

The media blitz known as the “Manning Principle” has Peyton doing things from chanting “cut that meat, cut that meat”, to wearing a fake cheesy mustache as he promotes such things as Direct TV to cellular phones. In one ESPN commercial he’s in a spot with his football family Archie, Mom, and that little brother he keeps picking on with wet willies and kicks to the back side. After last Sunday, Eli validated himself as his own man and soon to be mentioned as one of the top three quarterbacks taken each year in fantasy drafts.
Last Sunday Peyton took his tools to work and like a surgeon carved up the Texans to the tune of 400 yds. on 26 of 38 passing and 3 td on his way to winning the AFC Offensive Player of the Week. Eli, not to be out done big brother, threw for 371 yds and 3 tds himself. The impressive stat is that Eli brought his team back down 17 pts to the Eagles in the 4th quarter and lead them to victory in overtime with a walk-off 31 yd touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress. Ironically Eli was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. This should be a battle between the two for years to come.

Dis and Dat….

The emergence of Rex Grossman has fantasy owners scrambling to the waiver wires to scoop him up along with his two favorite receivers Wr Bernard Berrian and Te Desmond Clark. Thomas Jones owners don’t fret, the running game is about to explode as defenses adjust to the Bears new passing game, and running lanes open up. Based on final defensive stats from last year the Bears had the most match ups against the bottom 12 teams in rushing defense going into the season…. Chad Pennington is off to a great start averaging over 300 yds a game with 4 tds and a completion percentage of almost 66%. The Jets have NO running game so expect Pennington to continue to punish that twice surgically repaired shoulder throwing to his favorite targets Wr Lavuernes Coles and Wr Jericho Cotchery…. Nate Burleson is about to become one of the highest insurance policies against injury as Deion Branch is about to make his debut. Look for Matt Hasselbeck to really start slinging the ball around as the Seahawk running game has not liked crisp since the departure of guard Steve Hutchinson…..

Reynolds Wrap Foils Leonard….

Last week I challenged Karen Reynolds, Athletic Director of B.H.S., to a Fantasy 1 on 1 and needless to say I’m 0-2 and headed to Margaritaville. Karen and her team of Parrot heads beat me by 30 pts and had me reaching for a lime and a shaker of salt.

The World according to Roy Williams….

After last weeks comments about almost scoring 40 pts in the first game of the season, then guaranteeing a victory against the Bears I felt compelled to list the Top 3 Roy Williams observations of the week….
                                    ….Barry Bonds, all natural.
….O.J. is closing in on the killer.
                                    ….WWF, it IS real.

YUNK LOOKS TO LEAVE ME IN HIS DUST….

This week the opponent is Troy Yunk, Boys and Girls Head Varsity Cross Country Coach. Troy took time out of his busy schedule as he prepares for upcoming meets next Saturday (Sept 30th) for his JV teams in Freeport and the Varsity Boys in the Crete-Monet meets to try his hand at out distancing me in Fantasy 1 on 1. Coach Yunk got advice from dear old Dad and also his good friend Dave Ernest in preparing his killer line-up.
