THE QB CONFERENCE….

When Chris Simms had his spleen removed last Sunday night and was determined to be out indefinitely, Bruce Gradkowski jumped up and will become the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Bucs. With that designation as the starter, the Toledo grad became the fifth current starting qb from the MAC. The others are Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich (Marshall), Ben Rothlisberger (Miami, OH), and Charlie Frye (Akron). The five from the MAC are tied with the most from a conference with the PAC 10. This is amazing considering the Mid-American Conference is considered a mid-major conference and filled with lesser talented players. The Big 10 and SEC each have four starters and Conference USA and the Big East two a piece.

DIS AND DAT….
Cardinal Head Coach Dennis Green is still going to start Kurt Warner for now, but the writing is on the wall with all the grumblings earlier this week. Matt Leinert will be in there soon…very soon…. Vince Young is the other story, a couple more losses by the Titans and the qb apprentice will be learning on the job……Shaun Alexander’s broken foot may be a blessing in disguise for the Seahawks. The injury moves Maurice Morris into the line-up and justifies Seattle using four wides to try and slow down the Bear rush….If Maurice Jones-Drew of the Jaguars is still available pick him up and hide him if you have room on your roster, Fred Taylor is just an injury waiting to happen and it looks like Jones-Drew has the speed to hit the home-run from anywhere on the field…. If you hadn’t heard TE Vernon Davis has a broken leg and will be out four to six weeks, pick up Eric Johnson who looks to benefit from the injury, Alex Smith the SF QB is surprisingly averaging over 260 yds passing a game, he has come a long way from the rookie who looked lost last year….Terrell Owens and his suicide attempt, if you ask his previous teams he’s been a psycho killer to one teams persona and the other’s chance to make it back to the Super Bowl.

YUNK HANGS ON….
Cross Country Coach Troy Yunk held off a last charge thanks in part to the emotional night at the Superdome last Monday night as Algae Crumpler my tight end dropped a touchdown pass in the first quarter to help Troy to the 2 pt victory (49-47).
Troy wanted to make sure and thank his football scouts for their timely help..

HOLSKER READY TO KEEP PILING ON….

Bill Holsker, YMCA Executive Director, is next on the schedule to try his hand at putting me in my place. The 1985 Belvidere High School grad was more than willing to use his 14 years of experience watching middle aged men try to stay young playing a game as we picked our lineups. Bill knows where to butter his bread as he took the very favorable matchups against the Packers on Monday Night…..
