VICENCIO TAKES HOME A WILD WEDNESDAY WIN
By: Kevin Ramsell

Wednesday, June 20, 2007 (Loves Park, IL) – Mark Vincencio captured the Crap Scrapper Hornet feature on 4-H Salute to Dairy Month Wild Wednesday at the Rockford Speedway. Sabrina Castillo and Chris Gantz also took home feature wins.

Randy Reynolds had the early lead in the 15-lap Swarm with Matt Mangiaracina chasing him down.

With five laps in, it was a four car breakaway with Reynolds, Mangiaracina, Mark Vicencio and David Russell.

The caution flew on lap 7 when Anthony Mangiaracina appeared to have broken something on the front end of his Hornet coming off of turn two. He spun in the chicane and was done for the night.

On the re-start, it was Reynolds continuing to lead. With six laps to go, Vicencio got on the inside of Reynolds going into turn two and took over the top spot.

Vicencio began to pull away from the rest of the field. Behind him, Vinny Mangiaracina got past Reynolds for second.

Mangiaracina tried to chase down Vicencio but ran out of laps. Vicencio picks up his first feature win of the year.

Reynolds held on to third. Matt Mangiaracina finished fourth with Steve McBride rounding out the top five.

“Once I got around Reynolds, I knew I could stay ahead of him,” Vincencio stated in victory lane.

Castillo started third and quickly jumped to the lead in the Winged Women on Wheels feature event. On lap 2, Laura Siarkiewicz jumped to the inside of Castillo to challenge for the lead. Siarkiewicz held the lead for a lap before Castillo took back the top spot.

With two laps to go, Siarkiewicz challenged for the lead again. But Castillo was able to take of the advantage of the outside line. On the last lap, it was a side-by-side battle with Castillo winning by half a car length over Siarkiewicz. Latasha Hillary came home third.

Gantz went back to back in the Figure 8 feature event.

Robert Stoltz was the early leader but was challenged by Gantz on lap 2. The two went side-by-side for two laps until the two touched coming out of turn 2 and it allowed Gantz to pull away to the win.

Ronald Stoltz was second while Robert Stoltz fell back to third.

GILLE JOINS THE LIST OF FEATURE WINNERS AT ROCKFORD
By: Kevin Ramsell

Saturday, June 23, 2007 (Loves Park, IL) – Jerry Gille became the sixth different feature winner in 9 events for the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models at the Rockford Speedway. Fred Nason, Matt Berger, John Logan Jr., and Johnny Zielinga also took home feature wins on Northwest Bank Kids Night.

Bill Hobson had the early lead in the 30-lap main event. Hobson was out front cruising while John Reynolds Jr., Gille and Ricky Bilderback battled for second.

On lap 16, Reynolds slipped coming out of turn two and this allowed Bilderback to take over second and charge his way towards Hobson.

With 8 laps to go, Bilderback got on the inside of Hobson and got loose coming out of turn two. Bilderback spun into the infield. Ryan Carlson spun to avoid a spinning Bilderback. Bilderback was able to continue and re-joined the field at the rear.

Hobson continued to lead on the re-start. Carlson, who got his spot back, took the inside line on the re-start. With seven laps to go, Carlson got on the inside Hobson to challenge for the lead. The two made contact in turn two, causing both to spin. Scott McGinnis was also involved. This handed the lead over to Gille.

Gille would pull away from Reynolds to take home his first feature win of the year. Reynolds would hold off a charging Bilderback for second. Brett McCoy and Nick Shutkas would round out the top five.

Nason grabbed his second feature win in the NASCAR All-American Sportsman division.

Brandon Eash led a strong field in the early going of the 20-lap feature event. It was a four car breakaway with Eash, Darrell Garman, Nason, and Doug Bennett. Nason was all over Eash bumper and on lap 5, he got his opening took over the top spot from Eash.

Bennett was able to break away from Eash and Garman to take over second.

It was a battle of the modifieds between Nason and Bennett. Bennett looked every way he could to get past Nason. On the last lap, Bennett slipped in turns one and two which gave Nason the breathing room he needed to get the win.

Eash would hold on to third with Garman in fourth. Butch Swinbank rounded out the top five.

Berger collects his second feature win in the Budweiser American Short Tracker division.

Larry Dickinson II jumped to the lead for the 25-lap feature event. Dickinson held on to the top spot until Kelly Evink got by Dickinson on lap 7 to take over the top spot.

Evink didn’t have an easy time up front as he had to hold off Berger and BJ Sparkman for the lead.

On lap 13, Berger made his move to the inside to get past Evink for the lead. Sparkman followed take over second.

Sparkman tried to chase down Berger but ran out of laps as Berger took home his second win of the season.

George Sparkman finished third. Tim Melvin and Evink rounded out the top five.

Logan held off the point leader for his third feature win.

Bill Muraski jumped to the early lead in the 20-lap feature event.

It only took Logan five laps to go from his seventh starting spot up to the front. On lap 5, Logan got on the inside of Muraski and took over the top spot. Current point leader, Charlie Frisch followed Logan to second.

Frisch would keep the pressure on Logan throughout the rest of the race but would come up short as Logan would take home his third feature win of the year.

Dennis Smith Jr. would come home third with Chris Gantz and Vachenzia Jester rounding out the top five. Michael Vines finished third on the track but failed post-race inspection.

Zielinga was the winner of the FIRA Mini Indy Feature event.

Jim Bass was the early leader of the 15-lap feature event. The caution flew on lap 2 when Richard Kossak made hard contact with the front stretch wall. He was able to walk away but was done for the night.

On the re-start, Grant Greenfield jumped to the inside to make it three-wide for the lead. He went into turn one as the new leader.

That lead didn’t last long as Zielinga moved from his third starting spot to take over the lead.

Zielinga fought off a battle from Vern Brown to take home the win. Greenfield held on for third.

Along with the racing action, kids were welcomed onto the track for a gold/silver coin rush and witnessed Draco the Dragonator destroy a passenger car.
