Exciting New Event Added for Oktoberfest At LaCrosse Fairgrounds
July 3, 2007 - West Salem, WI - An exciting new event will be added to this fall’s Oktoberfest Race Weekend October 4-5-6--7 at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway.
It will be known as the 'Dick Trickle 99' and will consist of three 33-lap segments for Wisconsin Late Models.
The event will be featured on the Friday night of Oktoberfest. Points will be awarded at the end of each of the three segments: one point for winner, two for second and so on. The over-all winner will be the low point score.
This unique event is modeled after the award winning 'Milk Bowl' run for 43 years at Auto Racing Promoter of the Year Tom Curley’s Thunder Road Speedway in Barre, Vermont.
“Give it three years and it will be the marquee event of the Oktoberfest weekend,” predicted Curley. “It is one of the toughest races to win there is, there are so many variables.” Fans can follow the point totals with a free scorecard which will be distributed that Friday evening.
The same 24 Super Late Models will race in each segment, but it will be three totally different line-ups. ASA/Midwest Tour rules will apply. The fastest 16 qualifiers will advance with the balance of the field coming from last/chance events and promoter’s options. Officials will run a B-main for the cars not qualifying for the ‘Dick Trickle 99’.
“It should be fun, it should be different and it will be exciting”, forecast Trickle who will participate in the inaugural race. “It’s only the second thing in Wisconsin to ever be named after me.” Trickle, a Wisconsin racing legend, won 67 features in 1972 and has won over 1000 during his career.
“In shorter races like these 33-lappers, you have to charge to the front in a hurry,” Trickle explained, “but to finish first, first you have to finish.”
At the ‘Milk Bowl’ in Vermont, the winner has to 'kiss the cow', at LaCrosse they will have to 'eat the cheese' to collect the special event trophy.
This will be the 38th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend at LaCrosse. Last year’s event attracted 565 racers competing in 14 divisions. More information will be posted on www.lacrossespeedway.com as it becomes available.
NEW INTERSTATE EXIT NEAR THE ROCKFORD SPEEDWAY
By: Kevin Ramsell
Tuesday, July 03, 2007 (Loves Park, IL) – A day that many officials at the Rockford Speedway finally arrived on Monday, July 2nd when the new exit ramp from I-39/90 opened at Hwy. 173 in Machesney Park, IL. This new exit ramp will give race teams and fans an easier access to the 60 year old historic racing facility.
“I have been working here for a long time and it’s finally nice to see that we have basically a direct route to the interstate from the track,” Ray Padron, Director of Operations stated. “Basically, you take the exit, go about a mile and a half and boom the speedway is right there on the left.”
The Rockford Speedway is located on the corner of Hwy. 173 and Forrest Hills Road. Interstate I-39/90 is part of the Illinois Tollway and the Speedway is located about 1.5 miles west of the interstate.
Race fans and teams who coming to the Speedway from the north will not have to pay the $0.60 toll to use the exit ramp, nor do they have to pay the toll when using the ramp to get back on the interstate to go back north. But, those who are coming from the south and returning to the south will need to pay the $0.60 toll, just like they did when they used the E. Riverside Blvd exit to the Speedway.
Those who use the famous I-Pass system will only be charged $0.30 for the toll.
The Rockford Speedway will have racing action tonight (Tuesday, July 3) and Wednesday, July 4th. Each night will feature a huge fireworks display at the end of the night.
For more information on the Rockford Speedway, please call the track office at (815) 633-1500 or visit the track’s website at www.rockfordspeedway.com.
REYNOLDS JOINS THE FEATURE WINNER LIST AT ROCKFORD
By: Kevin Ramsell
Tuesday, July 03, 2007 (Loves Park, IL) – Jon Reynolds Jr. became the eighth different feature winner in the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Model division at the Rockford Speedway. Tim Melvin, Anthony Mangiaracina, and Vern Brown also picked up feature wins on a Special Tuesday night Star Spangled Celebration.
Mike Lloyd and Jon Reynolds Jr. led the field to the start of the 30-lap feature event. The action started in turn one when it appeared that something broke on Nick Shutkas’s right front suspension causing him to hit Bill Hobson causing Hobson to hit the turn one wall. Both were done for the evening.
This caused a full re-start to the main event. On the re-start, it was Reynolds jumping out to the early lead with Lloyd in second.
On lap 3, Ricky Bilderback began to challenge Lloyd for the second spot. Bilderback looked to the inside of Lloyd, but Lloyd was able to hold off the point leader.
On lap 13, Jerry Gille joined Lloyd and Bilderback in the battle for second while Reynolds was to a six car length lead. At the halfway mark, Bilderback got on the inside of Lloyd and took over the second spot. Bilderback started to chase down Reynolds.
With 12 laps to go, Bilderback was all over the rear bumper of Reynolds, looking for a way to take over the lead. Bilderback got on the inside of Reynolds with 10 laps to go, and the two battled side-by-side while Gille got past Lloyd and began to chase down the leaders.
With 5 laps to go, it became a three car battle for the lead with Reynolds still holding the point.
On the last lap, Bilderback got on the inside of Reynolds. The two went side-by-side going down the back stretch. As the two went into turn three, Reynolds was able to keep the momentum on the top side and hold off Bilderback for the win.
Gille would follow a close third with Lloyd coming home fourth. Tim Sargent would round out the top five.
Melvin would grab his second feature win of the season in the Budweiser American Short Tracker feature.
Randy Samples was the early leader in the 25-lap feature event. Melvin, who started 8th was challenging for the lead on lap 5. Melvin jumped to the top spot on lap 6.
Melvin would pull away from Samples by ten car lengths with 15 laps to go. Samples stayed in second but was challenged by point leader BJ Sparkman. Sparkman would get past Samples on lap 13 to take over the second spot. A lap later, Samples would get loose coming off of turn two would spin into the infield to bring out the caution.
Melvin continued to lead but he would have BJ Sparkman right on his tail with 10 laps to go. Melvin, who hasn’t won a feature since the opener back in April, was looking for his second win of the year.
With five laps to go, Melvin was out to a two car length lead over Sparkman. Sparkman tried to catch Melvin in the final five laps but would come up short at the checkers. Melvin would pick up his second win over Sparkman.
Matt Berger would come home third with Kelly Evink in fourth. Nick Cina Jr. would round out the top five.
Anthony Mangiaracina held off his father and brother to win his first Crap Scrapper Hornet feature.
Anthony grabbed the lead at the start of the 20-lap feature event. It was a pretty easy drive for Anthony while his father Vinny and brother Matt drove their way towards the front.
Mark Vicencio would get in the middle of the family affair as he would try to battle Anthony for the top spot in the closing laps. At the line it was Anthony with the win, with Vicencio in the second spot. Vinny, the father would come home third with son Matt in fourth. Nick Lasher, along with Vicencio, was the other driver not part of the Mangiaracina family to finish in the top five.
Brown collected another FIRA Mini Indy feature win.
Brown started on the pole and pulled away to a straightaway lead over Grant Greenfield.
Greenfield was in a great battle with Johnny Zielinga for the second spot while Brown was out for a Tuesday night drive.
Brown added another notch to list of feature wins at the Rockford Speedway. Greenfield held off Zielinga for second. Gary Cooper was fourth with Lyle Phillips rounding out the top five.
The action continues tomorrow night with Gilley’s Heating and Cooling presenting the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere. The NASCAR All-American Sportsman, Coca-Cola RoadRunners, INEX Legends, INEX Bandoleros, and the Allison Legacy cars will be in action. Also, there will also be a Double Flagpole race and the popular 10,000 WATT Fireworks Extravaganza. The action gets underway at 7:07 p.m.

BILDERBACK TAKES MID-SEASON HONORS AT ROCKFORD
By: Kevin Ramsell
Saturday, July 07, 2007 (Loves Park, IL) – Ricky Bilderback’s quest for a seventh straight title has reached the halfway point of the 2007 season. He currently sits on top of the point lead in the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Model division and took home his third feature win of the season at the Rockford Speedway. Brock Behnke, Tim Melvin, John Logan Jr. and Lon Meagher also took home feature wins on Metro Ambulance/Del Taco Night at the races.
It was a scary start to the 30-lap feature as Bill Hobson’s throttle stuck going into turn one. Hobson made hard contact with the outside wall. He was alright but was done for the night.
Brett McCoy was the early leader when the green flag fell. He was quickly being challenged by Ryan Carlson and Jerry Gille. The top three pulled away from the rest of the field.
On lap 7, Gille was able to get by Carlson on the outside to take over second. While the three battled for the top spot, Ricky Bilderback caught up and joined the trio.
Bilderback would get past Carlson on the inside to take over third then got on the inside of Gille for second. With 10 laps to go, Bilderback was challenging McCoy for the top spot.
The two would get together in each of the corners while battling for the top spot. With two laps to go, Bilderback would get past McCoy to take over the lead and go on to claim his third feature win. McCoy would hold on to second with Gille in third. Carlson would finish fourth and Bob Kahler would round out the top five.
Bilderback was the Mid-Season Champion for the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models. He holds a 14-point lead over Jerry Gille.
Behnke celebrated his recent marriage by picking up the feature win in the NASCAR All-American Sportsman division.
Rick Nielsen took the lead at the start of the 20-lap feature event. He was quickly challenged by Butch Swinbank and Brock Behnke for the top spot.
The caution flew on lap four when Jason Bragg coming off of fourth turn. He was able to recover and re-join the field. On the re-start, Behnke jumped into the second spot but then he was challenged by Fred Nason for second on lap 6. Nason would take the spot a lap later.
Nason set his sights on Nielsen and started to look on the inside of Nielsen at the halfway mark of the event.
The caution flew on lap 12 when Nason and Doug Bennett got together coming out of turn four causing Bennett to spin and collect Nielsen. This handed the lead back to Behnke.
Behnke would go on to hold off Butch Swinbank for his second win of the year. Ron Morris would come home third with Nason and Bennett rounding out the top five. Morris was disqualified for failing to pass post race inspection.
Nason was the declared the Mid-Season Champion for the NASCAR All-American Sportsman division. He holds a 16-point lead over Bennett.
Nick Cina Jr. jumped to the early lead over Randy Samples at the start of the 25-lap feature event. Melvin, the current point leader, moved from his 8th starting position to take over second from Jason Evans by lap 4.
The first caution flew on lap 6 when George Sparkman slowed on the backstretch causing Jeff Tenure and Keith Pierce to spin.
Cina continued to lead at the re-start but Melvin jumped on the inside to challenge for the lead. Caution flew again on lap 7 when BJ Sparkman and Matt Berger made contact coming off of turn four causing Berger to spin. Both were sent to the rear.
On the re-start, Tenure and Zach Rodriguez got together in turn three causing Rodriguez to make hard contact with the outside wall. Rodriguez was done for the evening.
Melvin finally got the opportunity to get by Cina on lap 8. As soon as he took over the top spot, the caution flew for Pierce’s spin.
After multiple cautions, NASCAR officials declared the race official with 10-laps to go after Cina and Berger spun coming out of turn four. Melvin would collect his third feature win of the season and also be declared the Mid-Season champion.
Jason Evans came home second with BJ Sparkman coming back to finish third. Aaron Rude would finish fourth and Steve Allman rounding out the top five.
Melvin was also the Mid-Season champion for the Budweiser American Short Trackers. Melvin has a 9-point lead over BJ Sparkman.

Logan started seventh and just simply stayed on the bottom line as he worked his to second by lap 4. A lap later, Logan would pass Steve Talley for the top spot.
Logan would pull away while Bryan Wilhelmi tried to chase him down. But Logan was just too strong as he went on to take the checkered flag. Wilhelmi would finish second with Kyle Rogers in third. Marci Lundberg was fourth and Dan Sander rounded out the top five.
Charlie Frisch was the Coca-Cola RoadRunner Mid-Season champion. He holds a 79-point lead over Logan.
Meagher was the winner of the Stock Car Classic feature.
Meagher got past Randy Vassh at the halfway mark of their feature event. On the final lap, Vassh tried to charge back towards Meagher but as he went into turn two he blew his right rear tire. This allowed Meagher to have an easy ride to the win.
