Wednesday, August 09, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) – Brock Behnke, Tammy Hawkins, Eric Knodle and Pat Smith took feature wins on Salute to Gas Night at the Rockford Speedway.

Behnke scored his third feature win in the Grand National Division.

Brock Behnke increased his point lead by taking home another Grand National Feature win.

Rick Nielsen grabbed the early lead in the 15-lap feature event. Behnke moved from his sixth starting position to second by lap 5. He then got on the inside of Nielsen to challenge for the top spot a lap later.

Nielsen and Behnke ran side-by-side when the caution flew on lap 9 for Darrell Garman’s spin in turn two. On the re-start, Behnke would get by Nielsen on the inside for the lead. Nielsen would come back to challenge but the caution flew on lap 12 when Doug Bennett and Fred Nason got together coming off of turn four, sending Bennett into the front stretch wall. On the re-start, Behnke would pull away from Nielsen to take his third win in a row. Chad Smith would come home third with Nason and Dennis Basler rounding out the top five.

It was a great classic four car battle for the win in the first Winged Women on Wheels feature.

Elizabeth Weigelt took the lead in the first 15-lap feature event. On lap 2, Sabrina Castillo moved from her third starting position to the outside of Weigelt and challenge for the top spot. The two would swap the lead back and forth while racing side-by-side around the quarter mile.

The battle for the lead allowed Amy Flippo and Hawkins to catch up to the top two and make it a four car battle for the lead. At the line, it was Castillo taking the win with Hawkins in second. Flippo would finish third over Weigelt. Amanda Maxwell would round out the top five.

The second feature had Hawkins taking the lead at the start and never looking back. She would go on to lead all 15 laps. Flippo would come home second with Castillo in third.

Hawkins, with her second place and win, was the overall winner.

Tammy Hawkins won the second WWOW feature and also collected the overall win.

Knodle would hold off Roger Schultz to win the 13-lap Hornet Swarm.

Knodle started fifth and got a great jump at the standing start to take the early lead. Knodle had an easy drive in the lead. Schultz would work his way through the field and catch up to Knodle with three laps to go. Schultz did make one attempt to take the lead with two laps go but would come up short at the finish line to Knodle.

Vinny Mangiaracina would come home third. Camran Frederick and Mark Bielefeldt rounded out the top five

.
Pat Smith takes home another Figure 8 feature win.

Pat Smith would get by Lloyd Hawkins on lap 2 of the first of two Figure 8 feature races. Smith would pull away to the win. In the second feature, Smith had to really work for the win.

Robert Bielefeldt would grab the early lead until he got loose coming out of turn two on the third lap. This would hand the lead over to Hawkins, but that only landed a lap as Gantz would get by him for the top spot.

On the last lap, Smith got on the inside of Gantz in the final two turns to take the win over Gantz. Hawkins would finish third.

Eric Knodle won the Hornet Swarm feature event.

Sabrina Castillo won the first Winged Women on Wheels feature.

Twin 75 Lap Features Added to Rockford NSTC

Rockford, IL- The Chicago International Trucks 41st annual National Short Track Championships will now feature twin seventy-five lap feature events on Saturday night for the Big 8 Series Late Models. A fifty-eight lap feature event for these cars has been the Friday night headliner the past two seasons, however a new format for the historic event has opened the door for the extended lap features under the lights on Saturday night September 23.

“The twin seventy-five format should allow us enough time to make our way through the field in both events and pass a bunch of cars.” Commented current Big 8 Series point leader Jeremy Miller who has won the past three series events. “I enjoy the longer races at Rockford, when your car works on the inside they are a lot of fun.” Each race will pay $600 to win, and consist of twenty five starting positions for the top weekly racing drivers from Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois.

A total of ten divisions will be competing during the event billed as ‘One Great Racing Weekend’. Racing action begins on Friday September 22 with the Winged Women on Wheels, Stanley Steemer Hornets, RoadRunners and Area Sportsman and finishes Sunday September 24 as the CRA Super Series Late Models battle in a two-hundred lap feature event and the Mid-American Stock Car Series compete in a seventy-five lap go. The Big 8 Series will be joined by the American Short Trackers, Grand Nationals, Hobby Stox and CRA preliminary events Saturday Night.

Advance tickets are now on sale for this event. Make your plans to stay in the Speedway Village or take advantage of great hotel rates starting at just $50 per night. For more information on the 41st annual National Short Track Championship including schedules, ticket prices and lodging information please visit www.rockfordspeedway.com or call 815-633-1500. BILDERBACK CRUISES TO HIS NINTH ROCKFORD FEATURE WIN
By: Kevin Ramsell

Saturday, August 12, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) – Ricky Bilderback extended his point lead as he captured his ninth feature win. Aaron Rude, Pat Smith, Michael Bilderback, and Sloan Henderson also took home feature wins on Speedway Auto Mall Night at the Races.

Bilderback would hold off Jeremy Miller to capture the NASCAR Late Model division main event.

Ricky Bilderback grabbed his ninth feature win in the NASCAR Late Model division.

Brett McCoy was the early leader in the 30-lap feature event. Bilderback quickly moved from his eighth starting position to fourth by lap 4. A lap later, he would get past Bill Hobson to take over the third spot.

Bilderback made his move to the lead over a two lap stretch. On lap 7, he would go on the inside of Josh Nelms and take over second. While still running on the inside, he would get past McCoy a lap later to take over the lead.

Miller moved from his sixth starting position to second at the halfway mark. But, he would not be able to chase down Bilderback as he cruised to another feature win. McCoy would hold on to third with Jerry Gille finishing fourth. Bob Kahler rounded out the top five.

Rude take home his first Budweiser American Short Tracker feature win.

An excited Aaron Rude picks up his first Budweiser American Short Tracker Feature win.

Rude started on the outside of the front row and grabbed the early lead over pole sitter Brian Harder.

It was not an easy drive for Rude. In the early going he held off a hard charge from Jason Bragg. Bragg did get Rude loose once coming off of turn four on lap 17. Rude was able to keep the lead. Later on, Nick Cina Jr. had his shot at passing the Pinto but he couldn’t get by Rude. In the final five laps, Rude had to hold off Matt Berger all the way to the checkered flag to get his first feature win. George Sparkman would come home third with Cina in fourth. Tim Melvin would round out the top five.

Smith grabbed his fifth feature win in the Coca-Cola RoadRunner division.

Pat Smith takes home another Coca-Cola RoadRunner Feature win.

Kenneth Brazee III was the early leader in the 20-lap feature event. Brazee would hold on to the lead until Corey Teran tapped him in turn two causing Brazee to spin. Teran received the black flag handing the lead over to Smith.

Smith would hold off Terrance Robinson for the win. Charlie Frisch would take home a third place finish. Gene Marocco would recover from an early caution to come home fourth. Jason Van Hise rounded out the top five.

Bilderback would hold off Kyle Lapier for another feature win in the Legends division.

Lapier and Bilderback would lead the 10-car field to the start of the 15-lap feature event. Bilderback would get the jump at the start. Lapier would follow Bilderback’s bumper for the first half of the event. In the second half, Bilderback would pull away from Lapier for the win. Jeramie Johnson would come home third.

Sloan Henderson picked up the Bandolero Feature win.

Henderson grabbed the lead at the start of the 12-lap Bandolero feature. She made the long trip from Franklin, OH to the Rockford Speedway victory lane, holding off Alex Arelano for the feature win. Tyler Blume came home third.

The evening concluded with the Illinois Camaro Club Parade and Smokey Burnout Competition.

Michael Bilderback went wire-to-wire to win the Legends Feature.
