BERGER COLLECTS HIS FOURTH AST FEATURE WIN AT ROCKFORD

Wednesday, August 16, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) – Matt Berger, Linnea Weerda, Morgan Schissel, Nick Lasher and Robert Stoltz took home feature wins on Back to School Night at the Rockford Speedway. It was the final Wednesday night program of the 2006 season.
Berger collected his fourth feature win of the year in the Budweiser American Short Tracker feature event.
Steve Allman and David Cooter put on a great side by side battle in the early part of the 25-lap event. It wasn’t until lap 5 when Cooter would pull out and take the outright lead.
Berger started tenth and patiently worked his way to the front. He was up to fourth by lap 6. With 10 laps to go, Berger created a lane between Tim Melvin and Allman and got himself up to the second spot.
The caution flew on lap 21 when Tim Harder and Jonathan Carsey spun in turns one and two. On the re-start, Berger would get on the inside of Cooter. With three laps to go, Berger would get by Cooter for the lead.
Berger would go on to the win holding off a late charge from George Sparkman to take the win. Cooter would finish third with Melvin in fourth. Aaron Rude would round out the top five.
Weerda won the first of two Winged Women on Wheels feature events.
Elizabeth Weigelt grabbed the early lead in the first 15-lap feature event. On lap 2, Weerda moved up from her third starting position to the outside of Weigelt and take over the top spot.
Weerda would spend the rest of the event holding off Tammy Hawkins for the win. Sabrina Castillo would come home third.
Amy Flippo jumped to an early lead in the second WWOW feature event. Flippo would hold on to the lead until three laps to go when Elizabeth Weigelt went by on Flippo on the outside to take the lead.
Weigelt would go on to win her first ever WWOW feature event. Flippo would hold off Weerda for second. Weerda’s first place and third place finish would give her the overall win.
Schissel took home the SuperCup Kids feature.
Cody Lipstreuer took the early lead in the 12-lap feature event. At the halfway mark, Schissel went to the inside of Lipstreuer coming off turn two and took over the top spot.
The 9-year-old pilot would go on to the feature win with Camden Murphy in second. Greg Ballard would come home third with Lipstreuer in fourth. Kelsie Dunlap would finish fifth.
Lasher drove away to take the Stanley Steemer Hornet feature win.
Alan Bekielewski took the early lead in the 13-lap feature event. But the lead didn’t last long as Lasher went to the outside of Bekielewski on lap 6 to take over the top spot.
Lasher would pull away to the win with Roger Schultz coming through the field to finish second. Vinny Mangiaracina finished third. Bekielewski finished fourth. Mangiaracina failed post race inspection and was disqualified for the evening.
Robert Stoltz would hold off Chris Gantz to take home his first Figure 8 feature win of the year. Stoltz grabbed the lead at the start and would off challenges from Lloyd Hawkins and Gantz for the win.
This Saturday night its Snap-On Tools Night at the Races. The NASCAR Dodge weekly Series will be in action with the NASCAR Late Models, Grand Nationals, Coca-Cola RoadRunners, and Allison Legacy cars. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and participate in an on-track Autograph session. Practice will start at 5:00 p.m. with qualifying at 5:45 p.m. The autograph session will take place from 6:20-6:50 p.m. The racing action will get underway at 7:07 p.m.

NELMS GRABS SECOND FEATURE WIN AT ROCKFORD

Saturday, August 19, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) – Josh Nelms, Rick Nielsen, Larry Dickinson II, and Scott McGinnis took home feature wins on Snap-On Tools night at the Rockford Speedway.
Nelms celebrated his second wedding anniversary by collecting his second feature win in the NASCAR Late Model division.
It was a wild start to the 30-lap feature event as it took three attempts to get the feature underway. On the first attempt, Nick Beinlich made hard contact with the turn one wall and rode the top of the wall until it came to a stop in turn two. On the second attempt, Nick Shutkas hit the turn four wall head on as he came up to speed to take the green flag.
The third attempt almost didn’t go when Brett McCoy got loose in turns one and two after taking the green flag. This allowed Nelms to move from his third starting position to the lead on the back stretch.
Jeremy Miller moved from his sixth starting spot to take over second from McCoy on lap 3. Miller spent the rest of the event trying to find a way to get past Nelms, but wasn’t able to get by as Nelms was the first at the checkers.
Jerry Gille held off Ricky Bilderback for third while McCoy came home fifth.
Nielsen collected his third feature win in the Grand National division.
Nielsen grabbed the lead on the start of the 15-lap feature event. He was challenged in the early going by Dennis Basler.
Current point leader, Brock Behnke was working his way to the front. With two laps to go, Behnke was challenging Basler for second when the two touched coming off of turn 4 causing Behnke’s right front tire to go down and bring out a caution. Behnke was able to return.
It was a two-lap shootout between Nielsen and Basler. On the final lap, Nielsen held off Basler while Doug Bennett would lose his right front tire coming off of turn two. At the finish it was Nielsen with the win over Basler. Darrell Garman would come home third with Chad Smith and Brandon Eash rounding out the top five.
Dickinson took the checkered flag in the Coca-Cola RoadRunner feature.
Dickinson grabbed the lead the start of the 20-lap feature over Jerome Edge. Dickinson had an easy drive while the rest of the field put on some great side-by-side battles behind him. The fans witnessed a lot of three wide racing throughout the event.
On the last lap, Pat Smith and Robert Roush were battling for second when the two touched coming off of turn four. Both got loose and were able to finish. At the line it was Dickinson with the win. Roush would come through for second with Jarrod Sutherland taking third. Smith and John Logan Jr. would round out the top five.
McGinnis held two great challengers to win the Allison Legacy feaure.
The 18-year-old pilot started on the pole and grabbed the lead at the start of the 15-lap feature. McGinnis held off a challenge from Jake Gille and Michael Bilderback for the final seven laps. At the line, it was McGinnis with the win while Gille held off Bilderback for second. Brock Russell was fourth with Dave Cooter rounding out the top five.
Next Saturday night, Kar Korner presents Kid’s Night with Children 11 and under admitted FREE plus Bike Races. The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series will be in action with the NASCAR Late Models, Budweiser American Short Trackers, Coca-Cola RoadRunners, SuperCups and SuperCup Kids. The evening of racing will be capped off with a Figure 8 School Bus Race. The racing action starts at 7:07 p.m.
