Belvidere Barracudas take duel meet from the Streator Stingrays

Some could easily argue that is was the sheer number of swimmers that the Belvidere Barracudas swim team put on deck that was the major factor in their victory against the Streator Stingrays last Saturday. Yes, Belvidere had a large group of enthusiastic swimmers, but it was their solid, winning performances that sealed the Stingray's fate.
While the Belvidere High School girl's swim team was competing at sectionals, future Lady Mermaids were honing their skills and lowering their times.

Photo # 1 Jordyn Morris, 13 pours it on during the 13-14, 50 yard freestyle event at Saturday's Barracuda duel meet against Streator. Morris finished second in the event with a time of 33.03 seconds.

Since swimmers must swim 20 laps of the pool during the 500 freestyle event, Moeller and O'Donnell were holding a lap card underwater so that LaBuy would know which lap she was on. Photo # 4 Boys and Girls events are often run at the same time if 5 or less swimmers, boys and girls are entered in an age group. Swimmer Kyle Hauser, 7 and Madelynn Marunde, 7 both prepare to swim the 8 & under Butterfly event where Hauser took 1 st place in the boys division. Marunde was swimming exhibition only in the girls 8 & under event. In a duel meet, swimmers can only swim in 4 events for team points and awards. If a swimmer needs a qualifying time or just wants more experience swimming an event, they can swim the event as exhibition only meaning that their time does not count towards the team points or for a ribbon.
