RUSH BEAT GLADIATORS 38-6

Story by Rob Feltner

Roscoe, IL-The Roscoe Rush hosted the Rock County Gladiators this weekend (June 2).  Starting at quarterback for the Rush was #11 George Becker.  The 41 year old Becker who is normally the offensive coordinator decided he wanted to give it one more shot.  The Rush jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Gladiators were able to lower the deficit to 10-6 after a long touchdown run by #21.  That would be it for the Gladiators as the Rush Defense led by Michael Dempsey (6 tackles) and Wendell McClain (6 tackles) took control of the game.  The Gladiators quarterback did not have time to get any passes off, and when he did Mike Goodwin #23 and Courtney Ford #31 was able to intercept the passes.  Goodwin had 2 interceptions and Ford grabbed one to give the Rush 3 interceptions for the night.

Offensively the Rush had their ups and downs, but was able to move the ball when needed.  Dontai Patrick #5 caught 2 touchdown passes from George Becker.  Running backs Jonathan Wiggins, and Brian Kelly each rush for a touchdown.  Kicker KC Goad kicked his 2nd field goal of the season.  Wide Receiver Justin Opengo returned a kick off 80 yards for a touchdown (this is only the 2nd kick off return for a touchdown in Rush history).  Final Score for this game: Rush 38 – Gladiators 6.
